THE SAN LORENZO MARKET IN FLORENCE: THE RENOVATION OF A HISTORICAL LOCATION, BASED ON INNOVATION

Active Surfaces® were chosen for the renovation of the iconic Central Market in Florence.

The new flooring in the historical San Lorenzo Market in Florence was recently inaugurated, following the skilful renovation marked by innovation while respecting the historical and cultural identity of the building.

The project, curated by the architects Diletta Storace and Nicola Spagni from the design firm S+S, used the eco-active Active Surfaces® by FMG - Fabbrica Marmi e Graniti, a brand of the Iris Ceramica Group, for the major renovation of the flooring on the ground floor. Maintaining strong style links with the existing materials, the eco-active Active Surfaces® were chosen for their tried-and-tested ability to make collective spaces safer and healthier, with their antibacterial and antiviral (even against Covid-19), anti-pollution, anti-odour and self-cleaning properties. These important, patented characteristics, certified to ISO standards, last over time, for the whole life cycle of the slabs, helping to improve the quality of the environment and personal well-being.

With the ability of Active Surfaces® to blend high technical performance with unmatchable levels of hygiene and safety, the new floors laid with these surfaces are ideal for busy public places like the Central Market in Florence. And all without compromising on beauty and respect for the environment.
