ITALGAS – TURIN
Italgas has chosen Active Surfaces® to create cozy, safe and hygienic environments in the renovated spaces of its Turin headquarters. A project that strengthens its historic connection with this city.
Italgas, Italy's leading natural gas distribution company, has chosen Active Surfaces® to renovate its headquarters in Turin, the city in which it was founded more than 180 years ago.
With this major redevelopment project, which was designed and implemented by Giugiaro Architettura, the two historic buildings located at Largo Regio Parco 9 and 11 have been fully renovated. The work spaces have been extensively redesigned – open-plan spaces, coworking spaces, areas for relaxation and indoor sports, terraces and roof gardens – and energy efficiency upgrades have been made in accordance with LEED certification standards.
The materials in the Citystone and Roads collections by FMG Fabbrica Marmi e Graniti and Calx by Iris Ceramica , in the Active Surfaces® version, were used for tiling the interior of both buildings. The four outstanding properties of these surfaces enhance the interaction between humans and their environments and, at the same time, foster a harmonious relationship with each specific architectural context.
Setting up the Italgas Heritage Lab was a key part of the project: this new physical and virtual space is the result of a digital transformation project involving the company’s historical archive, its library, and its newspaper and periodical library. The laboratory features cutting-edge technologies for 2D and 3D digitization of the historical, industrial, artistic and cultural heritage that the company has been collecting and preserving for almost two centuries. It houses an archive with more than 3 linear kilometers of documents, approximately 12,000 volumes, monographs, periodicals and collections, along with photographs, artwork, and gas industry items (from its origins to the present day).
This project thus combines the historical and technological background that distinguishes Italgas with design and innovation, thanks to innovative materials such as Active Surfaces®, with a special focus on important issues such as workers’ well-being and environmental sustainability.
